Product features

The batting of our Futon Wool, Latex & Double Coconut mattress consists of six layers of carded virgin wool, two layers of of rubberized coconut fibre and a core layer of high density latex.

This mattress offers a firm lying comfort: the internal layers of coir add firmness to the mattress and give extra support to the body while the external layers of wool adapt to the body shape relieving pressure form typical stress points such as the shoulders and hips. The core layer of latex provides stability for the composition and ensures that the futon keeps it's shape over time.

The batting of this mattress offers a symmetrical support. This means that the degree of support and feeling under the body does not change regardless of which side of the futon is facing upwards because the the layers of batting are perfectly symmetrical.

The layers of coconut fiber are also extremely breathable thanks to the many micro spaces between the fiber so they guarantee for a perfect circulation of air through the mattress. This combines with the natural breathability of the wool ensures that the body remains dry and comfortable during sleep as any moisture produced is absorbed and dissipated in the air.

Colors and side handles

The futon cover is available in different colors, which you will find in the above selection. The hand made step-stitching and edge seams are the same color as the cover of the futon. We recommend to add the practical fabric side handles, so that the futon can be moved more easily. These are sewed to both sides of the futon.

Care and maintenance

Futons are quilted mattresses with the cover sewn over the batting. Since the cover cannot be removed, possible stains will have to be removed with a dry stain remover. To protect the Futon from stains and dust, we therefore recommend to add the removable cover with a zipper which opens on three sides. You will find this in the Accessories section. The removable cover is made of the same material as the futon cover and it can be placed in the washing machine whenever necessary.

It's not possible to fold or roll up this futon because of the presence of two firm layers of coir in the batting. To air it out, simply leave it without bedding for a few hours in a room with the window open and flip it over during this operation to air out both sides. It's best to perform this operation at least at every change of season.

To ensure that the futon maintains its shape over time, we further recommend to turn it over from time to time, especially during the first months of use to allow for an even compression of the layers of wool under the weight of the body.

Durability of the futon

Arpel mattresses are made of high-quality materials such as carded virgin wool, high density latex and rubberized coconut fiber, with proper use and care, we guarantee that this mattress will last up to 20 years.
