Futons are quilted mattresses so it's not possible to remove the cover. Possible stains will have to be removed with a stain remover. To protect the Futon from stains and dust, we recommend to add the removable cover with a zipper which opens on three sides. You will find this in the Accessories section. The removable and machine washable cover is made of the same material as the futon cover and can be ordered in a different color.
Further we recommend to turn the futon over from time to time, so that the cotton layers maintain an even density as they become slightly compressed due to the body weight. The futon should also occasionally be rolled up and put to air out, so that the moisture which may have been absorbed from the air can escape. It's best to repeat this operation at every change of season.
In Arpel we don‘t use recycled cotton for the batting of our futons as with this material we would not be able to guarantee the desired quality of the fiber because it is often too worn out. Arpel mattresses are made of high-quality virgin cotton and with proper care they will last up to 10 years.
