The Single Futon in Virgin Wool, Cotton, Double Latex, and Coconut features a layer of wool on both sides, followed by four layers of carded cotton, two 3 cm layers of latex, and a 3 cm core of natural coconut fiber.
This premium mattress provides medium-firm, ergonomic support, combining firmness with gentle softness. The wool delivers comfort, breathability, and natural thermoregulation, while the cotton layers and coconut core ensure consistent support and airflow throughout. The two high-density latex layers add extra ergonomics and balance. The carefully layered construction maintains the futons shape and height over time.
Futon-mattresses are especially appreciated for their versatility. In Japan futons are spread on tatami-floors for sleeping at night and during the day they are rolled up to allow to use the area otherwise. Futons can very well also be used in beds with slat frames or tatami.

The futon has two convenient handles on the long sides to make it easier to handle and turn over.
Futons are quilted mattresses so you cannot remove the cover. Possible stains will have to be removed with a stain remover. To protect the Futon from stains and dust, we recommend to add the removable cover which opens on three sides. You will find this in the accessories section. The removable cover is made of the same material as the futon cover and can be ordered in a different color.
Further we recommend to turn the futon over from time to time, so that the cotton layers maintain their density. The futon should also occasionally be rolled up and put to air out, so that the moisture which may have been absorbed from the air can escape. It´s best to repeat this operation at every change of season.
In Arpel we do not use recycled cotton for the batting of our futons. With recycled cotton we wouldn't be able to guarantee the desired quality of the fibre, as it is often too worn out. An Arpel mattresses are made of high-quality virgin cotton and with proper care they will last up to 10 years.
