Product features

The batting of the Futon Bio Cotton & Memory 6 mattress consists of 4 layers of carded cotton and a 6 cm layer of viscoelastic material better known as memory foam.

This mattress offers a medium firm ergonomic lying comfort: the presence of several layers of cotton determine the firmness, whereas the layer of memory foam balances the composition. This futon is an innovative material combination of classical bio cotton and a new generation of material that is foamed with water and has viscoelastic qualities. This mattress is asymetric and should not be turned over, so that body remains in contact with the comfortable memory layer. Thanks to the high-quality of this material composition this futon maintains its form for many years.

Futon-mattresses are especially appreciated for their versatility. In Japan futons are spread on tatami-floors for sleeping at night and during the day they are rolled up to allow to use the area otherwise. Futons can very well also be used in beds with slat frames or tatami.

Memory Foam

Memory is a new generation material which consists of viscoelastic foam made of water and essential oils. Its main characteristic is that through the pressure and warmth of the body it newly forms itself and afterwards returns to its original form. Due to its ergonomic viscoelastic qualities memory foam offers good body support and distributes the weight evenly. Further it reacts to every movement during the night and relieves backaches. Unlike latex mattresses futons with memory are very breathable and pleasantly cooling.

Maintenance and care

Futons are quilted mattresses so you cannot remove the cover. Possible stains will have to be removed with a stain remover. To protect the Futon from stains and dust, we recommend to add the removable cover which opens on three sides. You will find this in the Accessories section. The removeable cover is made of the same material as the futon cover and can be ordered in a different color.

Further we recommend to turn the futon over from time to time, so that the cotton layers maintain their density. The futon should also occasionally be rolled up and put to air out, so that the humidity which may have been absorbed from the air can escape. It´s best to repeat this operation at every change of season.

Durability of the futon

In Arpel we do not use recycled cotton for the batting of our futons. With recycled cotton we wouldn´t be able to guarantee the desired quality of the fibre, as it is often too worn out. Arpel mattresses are made of high-quality virgin cotton and with proper care they will last up to 10 years.
