Product features

One of the most appreciated aspects of futon mattresses is their great versatility. In Japan futons are typically spread on tatami-floors for sleeping at night and during the day they are rolled up to allow to use the area otherwise. It's also possible to use futons as mattresses in beds with slats or tatami bases, or as upholstery in transformable sofa beds. This is because their particular batting allows them to be folded in different points to take on different forms.

The batting of our Futon Wool & Latex 8 mattress consists of 6 layers of carded wool and an internal 8 cm thick core of latex.

This futon mattress offers an extremely comfortable, body adapting, lying comfort: the 6 layers of wool offer the body great high support firmness, whereas the ergonomic latex insert balances the composition making this mattress more ergonomic.

The batting of this futon offer a symmetrical support. This means that the degree of support and the feeling under the body do not vary regardless of which side is facing upwards.

The carding process that the wool undergoes and the high density of the layer of latex guarantee for the stability of this futon and ensure that it maintains its form perfectly for many years.

Colors and side handles

The futon cover is available in various colors, which you can choose from. The hand made step-stitching and edge seams are the same color as the cover of the futon. We recommend to accessorize your futon with the practical fabric handles on the sides that we offer, so that the futon can be moved more easily.

Maintenance and care

Futons are quilted mattresses the cover cannot be removed for washing. Possible stains will have to be removed with a dry stain remover. To protect the Futon from stains and dust, we recommend to add the removable cover with a zipper that be opened on three sides. You will find this in the Accessories section. The removable cover is made of the same material as the futon cover and can be ordered in a different color.

Further we recommend to turn the futon over from time to time, so that the wool layer maintain an even density as they become slightly compressed due to the body weight. The futon should also occasionally be rolled up and put to air out, so that the humidity which may have been absorbed from the air can escape. It´s best to repeat this operation at every change of season.

Durability of the futon

Arpel mattresses exclusively with high-quality materials such as virgin sheep wool and high density latex. With proper care they will last for up to 10 years.
