Futon mattresses are especially appreciated for their versatility. A futon can just as well be used in beds with slat or tatami bases, as it can be placed on a floor of tatami mats, as is typically done in Japan, and that's not all; futons are also often used as couch bases or as transformable sofas because, thanks to their specific type of batting, these mattresses can be easily folded or rolled up to take on different positions.

The Batting of our Futon Wool Medium consists of of 7 layers of carded virgin wool and offers a medium firm lying comfort. Wool is naturally a highly breathable material so this mattress easily dissipates moisture and keeps the body dry during sleep. Further advantages of wool are that it doesn't represent a favourable enviroment for mites and it offers a support that moderately conforms to the body, while still being highly supportive. This helps relieve typical pressure points and encourages longer stages of sleep.

Colors and side handles

The futon cover is available in different colors, which you will find in the above selection. The hand made step-stitching and edge seams are the same color as the cover of the futon. We recommend to add the practical fabric side handles, so that the futon can be moved more easily. These are sewed to both sides of the futon.

Maintenance and care

Futons are quilted mattresses it isn't possible to remove the cover. Possible stains or spots must be removed with a dry stain remover. To protect the futon from stains and dust, we recommend to order the removable cover as well. This cover opens on three sides and is without metal parts as it is made of plastic. You will find this in the Accessories section. The removable cover is made of the same material as the futon cover and can be ordered in a different color.

Additionally we recommend to turn the futon over from time to time, so as to evenly compress the wool layers and maintain the same density throughout the mattress. The futon should also occasionally be rolled up and put to air out, so that any residual humidity is let out. It´s best to repeat this operation at every change of season.
