Product features
The batting of the Futon Cotton & Latex 4 mattress consists of 6 layers of carded cotton and an internal 4 cm thick core layer of latex.
This model is a mattress with medium firm lying comfort: the presence of several layers of cotton determine the firmness, whereas the ergonomic latex insert balances the composition. The high density latex balances well the natural density of the cotton. Thanks to the high quality of this rich batting, we can guarantee that this futon will maintain its form for many years.
This futon offers a symmetrical support. This means that degree of support and feel of this mattress will not change regardless of whichever side of the futon is facing upwards.
If you prefer a more ergonomic futon with a thicker layer of latex we recommend the Futon Cotton & Latex 8
Futon-mattresses are especially appreciated for their versatility. In Japan futons are spread on tatami-floors for sleeping at night and during the day they are rolled up to allow to use the area otherwise. Futons can very well also be used in beds with slat frames or tatami.

Colour customisation
The futon cover is available in different colors, which you will find in the above selection. The hand made step-stichting and edge seams are the same color as the cover of the futon.
Maintenance and care
Futons are quilted mattresses so you cannot remove the cover. Possible stains will have to be removed with a stain remover. To protect the Futon from stains and dust, we recommend to add the removable cover with a zipper which opens on three sides. You will find this in the Accessories section. The removable cover is made of the same material as the futon cover and can be ordered in a different color.
Further we recommend to turn the futon over from time to time, so that the cotton layers maintain their density. The futon should also occasionally be rolled up and put to air out, so that the moisture which may have been absorbed from the air can escape. It´s best to repeat this operation around 3 - 4 times a year.
Durability of the futon
In Arpel we do not use recycled cotton for the batting of our futons. With recycled cotton we wouldn´t be able to guarantee the desired quality of the fibre, as it is often too worn out. Arpel mattresses are made of high-quality virgin cotton and with proper care they will last up to 10 years.
