The futon included in the offer is an esclusive japanese futon with biological cotton batting enriched with internal layers of latex, coir and, upon choice wool.
The rich composition of these futon mattresses offers a firm, well balanced lying comfort: the internal layer of coir adds extra firmness and support, while the ergonomic latex insert balances the composition and adds extra softness. Below we expose the main differences between the two futons.
The futon with biological cotton batting with 1 layer of coir and 1 of latex offers a unsymmetrical resting support. This means that the degree of support differs according to which side of the futon is facing upwards. If the futon is positioned with the layer of latex above the layer of coir, the futon will feel softer and more ergonomic. If the futon is turned over so that the coir layer is on top of the latex layer, the support will be stiffer and firmer.
The futon with biological cotton batting with 2 layers of coir, 1 of latex and 1 of wool offers a symmetrical resting support. This means that the degree of support does not vary according to which side is facing upwards.
The layer of wool on one side is designed to be used as the top layer during the winter as it offers extra warmth while remaining extremely breathable. In the summer, we advise to turn the futon over to sleep on the opposite side as the external layer in cotton is cooler and helps keep the body fresh and dry.
Japanese futons are quilted mattresses so the cover cannot be removed. Possible stains will have to be removed with a dry stain remover. To protect the Futon from stains and dust, we recommend to add the removable cover which opens on three sides. You will find it in the Accessories section.

The tatami base can consist of 2 or 3 tatami mats depending on the inner width of the bed. For inner widths ranging from 160 cm to 200 cm, 2 tatami mats will be placed on the slats to form the bed base. For inner widths ranging from 210 cm to 270 cm, 3 tatami mats form the bed base.
The tatami mat placed in this bed is an authentic, high quality japanese straw woven mat with a double rush straw weave. This means that the straw weave is visible both on the upper and lower side side of the tatami mat.
Our tatami mats are 5 cm high and relatively heavyweight as they have a very thick internal rice straw weave that ensures that they keep their shape over time.
Besides being a great element of design, tatami mats represent the perfect base for japanese futon mattresses. They are completely natural, offer a firm support for a healthy sleep and are extremly breathable.
The tatami mats are supported by 9 cm wide and 3 cm thick beech wood slats.
This japanese low bed can be completed with various elements from the Accessories section such as a pair of beside tables, different types of headrests and japanese style bedding in 100% percale cotton.
